ZEV and vZEV in the Canton of Uri

What applies in the Canton of Uri for your ZEV

ZEV, vZEV and LEG in brief

A ZEV (self-consumption community) lets several parties use the solar power from their own roof together. In a vZEV (virtual ZEV), everyone keeps their own connection, and the allocation is made through the grid operator’s metering. The LEG (local electricity community) has been possible since 1 January 2026 and includes neighbours through the public grid.

What applies in the Canton of Uri

The Canton of Uri has a solar duty for new buildings (Art. 29a of the Energy Regulation). It applies from an eligible building area of 300 m², for the roof or the façade. The system must have an output of at least 20 W per m² of eligible building area. The eligible area is the area within the projected façade line.

There are exceptions if the system conflicts with other public-law rules, is technically impossible or is economically disproportionate. In that case a replacement levy of CHF 2,500 per missing kW applies. For apartment buildings, paragraph 5 is important: the duty can also be met through participation in a self-consumption community.

Grid operator and metering

energieUri supplies 14 of the 19 communes in the canton. It offers ZEV, vZEV and LEG. According to its information, all three models need a local production system with a minimum output, metering that meets the metering law, and registration three months before setting up. For billing there is a self-managed variant and a complete package.

We plan the solar system, meters and contracts so that the registration with energieUri is complete. Which model suits your building, we clarify at the site visit. For buildings with EV chargers, the solar power can also be used within the community.

Frequently asked questions

Your question is not listed?

044 980 08 80info@solarinnovation.ch
Is the site visit really free?

Yes. The visit and the quote cost you nothing and commit you to nothing. You only decide once you hold the binding quote in your hands.

Is there a solar duty for new buildings in the Canton of Uri?

Yes, for new buildings with 300 m² or more of eligible building area. The system must have an output of at least 20 W per m² of eligible building area. Exceptions are possible for legal, technical or economic reasons and are compensated with a replacement levy.

Can I meet the Uri solar duty with a ZEV?

Yes. The Energy Regulation allows the duty to be met also through participation in a self-consumption community under federal law. Before the building application, we check with you how the participation is to be proven.

What support does energieUri offer for a ZEV in Uri?

By its own account, energieUri offers supply, remuneration and billing for ZEV, vZEV and LEG, optionally with a worry-free package. We clarify the model and the costs with energieUri during planning.

Do all tenants have to take part in a ZEV?

No. Anyone who does not want to take part stays with the electricity utility. Participation must be voluntary, and the solar power must not cost more than grid electricity. We set out how this is handled in your building in the concept.

What can the solar power cost in a ZEV?

The internal tariff must be below the grid operator's price for comparable customers. As an industry guide value, a discount of about 20 per cent applies. The rules can change. We check the current status during planning.

Do I need a new solar system for a ZEV?

Usually yes, or at least an extension. Existing systems can often be integrated if the metering and distribution are adapted. We check this during the site visit.

Which regions do you cover?

All of German-speaking Switzerland. We build most often in the cantons of Zurich, St. Gallen, Schwyz and Aargau. Our locations are in Zumikon ZH and Lachen SZ.
