For architects and developers

What architects and developers want to know about solar in new builds

In a new build, the first plans decide a lot. What is not planned in now costs twice as much later: conduits are missing, the meter space is too small, the roof is already covered. If you involve solar early, you save on interfaces, scaffolding costs and discussions on site.

We like working with architects. You want reliable data, clear dates and a solution that fits the design. We start with a free site visit or, if nothing is built yet, a discussion based on the plans. The binding quote follows within 72 hours.

The worries in a new build

Schedule: Installation has to fit the construction sequence. If the system is delayed, the interior finishing or the final acceptance is held up.

Plans: On paper, the system looks different from on the roof. Connections, penetrations and cable routes must be settled early.

Appearance: The roof shapes the house. It should look calm, even with solar modules.

Interfaces: Roofer, plumber, electrician, heating engineer and solar installer all work on the same house. Every open question between them costs time.

In-roof: the roof as a solar system

With an in-roof solar system, the modules replace the roof tiles and form the waterproof layer themselves. The roof looks like one flush surface, with no mounting structure above the tiles. In a new build this is the cheapest moment, because the roof is not yet covered.

One thing applies: in-roof is usually more expensive per kWp than on-roof. The tiles and part of the roofing work are no longer needed, so it is better to compare the extra cost against a tiled roof. We calculate this for you in the quote. If you wish, we set on-roof and in-roof side by side. The basics of every system are described on the solar system page.

Planning data when you need it

For your plans, we supply what you need:

  • Module size, layout and coverage of the roof surface
  • Connection details for ridge, eaves, verge and penetrations
  • Weight and loads for the structural calculations
  • Cable routes and space needed for the inverter and meter cabinet
  • Yield forecast for your client

The earlier we can work with the roof plan and the electrical concept, the fewer changes are needed later. We adapt the scope of what we supply to your stage of planning.

Installation to your schedule

We coordinate installation with the roofer, plumber and electrician. With an in-roof system, the roof build-up and the installation are closely linked, so we plan the sequence together. Our own installers carry out the work. That means a fixed date and a fixed contact person.

Design and townscape

Whether a system gets approved often depends on how it looks on the roof. In historic core zones and for protected buildings, the commune (municipality) decides case by case. A flush, uniformly black in-roof system usually fits in better than a visible on-roof structure. We find out what is possible for your address and prepare the documents for the notification or building application, so that you can include them in your submission.

For façades, carports or a system on a garage roof, design matters too. Show us your design and we will tell you what is technically feasible and what it costs.

Preparing the underground car park

Even if there is no electric car in the house today, the underground car park can be prepared cheaply during the shell construction. Conduits, cable trays and space in the distribution board cost little now. Breaking open walls later is expensive. Wallboxes and load management follow later as needed. More on this under EV charging in underground car parks.

Subsidies and notification

For the solar system there is the federal one-off payment (Einmalvergütung, EIV) from Pronovo, plus further contributions depending on canton and commune. We register the system and submit the subsidy applications. For roofs in the building zone, a notification to the commune is usually enough (notification procedure, Meldeverfahren). For protected buildings a building permit is required. We clarify this early so that it does not slow down your schedule.

How we work together

  1. First conversation: plans, dates, wishes of the client.
  2. Site visit or plan review: free.
  3. Quote in 72 hours: binding, with on-roof and in-roof compared if you wish.
  4. Coordination with the trades: roof build-up, connections, dates.
  5. Notification and grid operator: we submit the documents.
  6. Installation and acceptance: our own installers, in the agreed time slot.

Enter the postcode of the building site in the appointment form. We will get in touch and arrange the conversation or the site visit.

Our services for you

The free site visit

One appointment at your home. Then you know everything.

A project manager from our team visits you and checks three things. No sales show, no obligation. Afterwards you receive a binding quote with yield, subsidies and payback.

  1. A project manager measures the area of a tiled roof.
    01

    Roof

Area, orientation, pitch, condition of the roof covering and shading.

  2. A project manager explains the distribution board to the homeowner.
    02

    Electrical system

Grid connection, distribution board and space for inverter and battery.

  3. Project manager talking to a couple in front of their home.
    03

    Your consumption

Electricity bill, car, heating, plans. From this we calculate yield and subsidies.

How your project runs

Tell us briefly about your building and your goal. Online or by phone.

  2. Site visit

We check your roof, electrical system and consumption at your home. Free of charge.

  3. Quote in 72 hours

Binding and transparent, with yield, subsidies and payback.

  4. Permit and subsidies

We handle the notification procedure, the grid operator and Pronovo.

Frequently asked questions

Before you get in touch.

Your question is not listed?

044 980 08 80info@solarinnovation.ch
Is the site visit really free?

Yes. The visit and the quote cost you nothing and commit you to nothing. You only decide once you hold the binding quote in your hands.

Which documents do you need from us for planning?

Roof plans, sections, details of the roof build-up and insulation, and the electrical concept. The earlier we see these, the better the system fits the design.

At what stage of the construction process should we involve you?

As early as possible, ideally in the preliminary design phase. Roof shape, cable routes and meter location can then be allowed for at no extra cost.

Can the system be matched to the building in colour and design?

Usually yes. A uniformly black in-roof system looks calm. For special requirements we check the module format and edge details, and show samples on site.

How do you coordinate with the other trades?

We go through the roof build-up, connections and schedule with the roofer, plumber and electrician. We settle open points in writing before installation.

Can we prepare the underground car park for EV chargers now?

Yes, and it is cheaper than doing it later. Conduits, cable trays and space in the distribution board are planned in during the shell construction. The wallboxes follow later as needed.

Which regions do you cover?

All of German-speaking Switzerland. We build most often in the cantons of Zurich, St. Gallen, Schwyz and Aargau. Our locations are in Zumikon ZH and Lachen SZ.
