For homeowners

What homeowners want to know before deciding

Owning a house means living with energy questions. The heating is old, electricity prices are rising, and perhaps an electric car is coming soon. And every provider sells only its own part: one the solar system, another the heat pump, a third the wallbox.

We see it as one system. Solar system, battery storage, EV charger and heat pump all use the same electricity. When they are matched to each other, more of your own solar power stays in the house. That is why every project with us starts with a free site visit.

What matters to homeowners

From conversations with homeowners we know three worries: the cost, the subsidies and trust.

Cost: A price without a site visit is an estimate. After the visit you receive a binding quote within 72 hours. It states capacity, yield, subsidies and payback, calculated with your consumption.

Subsidies: The federal one-off payment (Einmalvergütung, EIV) from Pronovo and, depending on canton and commune, further contributions help with the investment. We submit the applications. On request, we pre-finance the subsidy. For tax too, in most cantons you can deduct the investment in an existing house.

Trust: You get a site visit instead of a quote based on a satellite image. Our own installers build the system. We are a member of Swissolar, the Swiss solar energy association. And from the first conversation to commissioning, you have one fixed contact person.

The solar system as the foundation

It all starts with the roof. A single-family home usually has room for 8 to 15 kWp. We check orientation, pitch, shade and the condition of the roof covering. If the roof refurbishment is due anyway, we plan both together. You will find everything important under solar systems and photovoltaics.

Without further measures, a household uses only part of its own electricity directly, and the grid operator pays for the rest at a lower tariff. This is exactly where the other building blocks come in.

Battery, EV charger and heat pump

  • Battery storage: Power from midday covers the evening. More under battery storage.
  • EV charger: An electric car needs around 2,000 to 3,000 kWh a year. With an EV charger that detects surplus power, you charge with sunshine.
  • Heat pump: It heats and makes hot water using electricity. Together with the solar system, your energy costs fall the most. You will find information on the heat pump on its service page.
  • Controls: An energy manager switches on the boiler, wallbox and heat pump when the sun is shining.

You do not have to buy everything at once. What matters is that we plan from the start so that later building blocks can be added without rebuilding. If you start with the solar system today and buy an electric car in three years, you should not have to open up walls again.

Backup power: lights on during a grid outage

A normal solar system switches off during a grid outage for safety reasons. If you do not want that, choose a battery that supports backup power. It keeps important loads running, for example the fridge, lights, internet and the heating controls.

How much backup power you need is a matter of preference. It is worth settling this before building, because the meter cabinet has to be prepared for it. At the site visit we discuss which loads should be covered and what that means for battery size and distribution.

What happens at the site visit

We come at an agreed time, and it usually takes about an hour. On the roof we measure the usable area and check shade and roof covering. In the cellar we look at the meter cabinet and the boiler room: is there enough space for the inverter and battery? Does the fusing fit? We also ask about your consumption, your plans for a car and heating, and what matters to you.

You do not have to commit to anything. Afterwards you get the quote and decide in your own time. If you have questions, call us.

How the project runs

  1. Enquiry: online in a minute or by phone.
  2. Site visit: we check the roof, meter cabinet, boiler room and consumption. Free and with no obligation.
  3. Quote in 72 hours: binding, with yield, subsidies and payback.
  4. Notification and grid operator: we submit everything for you.
  5. Installation: our own installers, with a fixed date. Depending on the size of the system, installing the solar system usually takes about a week.
  6. Commissioning: we show you the system and the app where you see yield and consumption.

Do you already have a system? Then we check whether an extension of the solar system or a retrofitted battery is worthwhile. That also starts with a site visit.

The next step

Enter your postcode in the appointment form. We will get in touch and arrange the free site visit. After that you know what is possible in your home, what it costs and what it brings you. You only have to decide once you have the quote.

The free site visit

One appointment at your home. Then you know everything.

A project manager from our team visits you and checks three things. No sales show, no obligation. Afterwards you receive a binding quote with yield, subsidies and payback.

  1. A project manager measures the area of a tiled roof.
    01

    Roof

Area, orientation, pitch, condition of the roof covering and shading.

  2. A project manager explains the distribution board to the homeowner.
    02

    Electrical system

Grid connection, distribution board and space for inverter and battery.

  3. Project manager talking to a couple in front of their home.
    03

    Your consumption

Electricity bill, car, heating, plans. From this we calculate yield and subsidies.

How your project runs

  1. Request

Tell us briefly about your building and your goal. Online or by phone.

  2. Site visit

We check your roof, electrical system and consumption at your home. Free of charge.

  3. Quote in 72 hours

Binding and transparent, with yield, subsidies and payback.

  4. Permit and subsidies

We handle the notification procedure, the grid operator and Pronovo.

  5. Installation and commissioning

Our own installers, a fixed date, final inspection with you on the roof.

Frequently asked questions

Before you get in touch.

Your question is not listed?

044 980 08 80info@solarinnovation.ch
Is the site visit really free?

Yes. The visit and the quote cost you nothing and commit you to nothing. You only decide once you hold the binding quote in your hands.

Should I install the solar system or the heat pump first?

Either order works if the planning is right. If your heating is due for replacement, it pays to calculate the heat pump and the solar system together. At the site visit we show you what makes sense first in your home.

Is a battery worthwhile in a single-family home?

It depends on how much electricity you use during the day and what your grid operator pays for feed-in. We calculate the system with and without a battery. You see the difference in the quote in black and white.

Can I add an electric car later without rebuilding everything?

Yes. We plan the supply cable, fusing and controls so that an EV charger can be added later without major work. The same goes for a battery and a heat pump.

How secure is my power during a grid outage?

With a battery that supports backup power, important loads stay on, such as the fridge, lights and heating controls. We agree with you in advance which devices are connected.

What do I need to prepare for the site visit?

Not much. Your last electricity bill and, if you have them, plans of the house are helpful. We look at the roof, meter cabinet and boiler room and discuss your wishes.

Who takes care of notification, subsidies and the grid operator?

We do. You do not have to fill in any forms. The notification to the commune (municipality), the registration with the grid operator and the subsidy application all go through us.

Which regions do you cover?

All of German-speaking Switzerland. We build most often in the cantons of Zurich, St. Gallen, Schwyz and Aargau. Our locations are in Zumikon ZH and Lachen SZ.
