What applies to your solar system in the Canton of Aargau
Permit: notification via EVEN
In the Canton of Aargau, sufficiently well-integrated solar systems on roofs in building and agricultural zones do not need a building permit (Art. 18a RPG, § 49a Bauverordnung). You notify the commune council of the system through the cantonal platform EVEN. The criteria in the canton’s solar brochure are: a compact module area, a small distance to the roof surface, not visible above the roof edge, and low reflection. We keep to these rules when planning.
After the notification, a 30-day period starts. If the commune does not order otherwise, we can then start installation. Facade systems can also be built under the notification procedure (Meldeverfahren) if they meet the criteria. A regular building application is needed for systems on heritage-protected buildings, in protection zones and for free-standing systems. For buildings in ISOS-A townscapes, the canton applies particularly strict checks.
Subsidies in the Canton of Aargau
The federal government pays the one-off payment (Einmalvergütung, EIV) through Pronovo. Since 1 April 2025 the base amount no longer applies. Add-on systems under 30 kWp receive CHF 360 per kWp, integrated systems CHF 400 per kWp.
The canton’s 2026 subsidy programme does not support the photovoltaic system directly. It does include a bonus if you insulate the roof or facade at the same time on a building whose building permit dates from before 2000. Per square metre you get an extra CHF 30 for an add-on system on a pitched roof, CHF 100 for in-roof or facade systems and CHF 20 for green flat roofs. The photovoltaic system must cover at least 70% of the roof or facade area, and at least 50% on flat roofs. You must submit the application before building work starts. If you are planning a roof renovation, we are happy to work through the numbers with you.
For tax purposes, the Aargau tax office accepts energy-saving measures as a deduction if they were carried out at least five years after the building was completed.
Grid operator and power price
Aargau has many grid operators. The one serving the most communes is AEW Energie AG (70 communes, 27.9 ct./kWh), followed by Eniwa (15 communes, 27.2 ct.), IBB Strom (26.8 ct.), EWS Energie and Energie Oberes Fricktal. The cantonal median is 27.7 ct./kWh excluding VAT (household category H4, ElCom 2026), which is exactly the Swiss median.
The grid operator pays for the electricity you feed in, and the rate differs from one utility to the next. In the quote we calculate with the tariff of your utility.
Single-family homes in Aargau
Aargau has around 109,000 single-family homes, and about 52% of residential buildings date from before 1980. Many of these roofs are due for renovation. We plan the roof, the solar system and, if needed, a battery storage system as one package, with our own installers.

Frequently asked questions
Before you get in touch.
Is the site visit really free?
Yes. The visit and the quote cost you nothing and commit you to nothing. You only decide once you hold the binding quote in your hands.
Do I need a building application for a solar system in the Canton of Aargau?
For most roof-mounted systems in Aargau, a notification to the commune council is enough. A building application is needed for protected buildings, in protection zones and for free-standing systems. We check your address and file the notification.
Does the Canton of Aargau pay subsidies for photovoltaics?
The Canton of Aargau does not subsidise the photovoltaic system itself. The 2026 subsidy programme includes a photovoltaic bonus if you insulate the roof or facade at the same time. You apply for the bonus before building work starts.
Can I deduct a solar system from my taxes in the Canton of Aargau?
According to the tax office's information sheet, energy-saving measures are deductible if they are carried out at least five years after the building was completed. For a new build, you should clarify this with the tax office beforehand.
How much does electricity cost in the Canton of Aargau?
The cantonal median is 27.7 ct./kWh excluding VAT, which equals the Swiss median. Depending on your grid operator, the price in your commune is higher or lower.
How large does my roof need to be for a solar system?
A system is worthwhile from about 20 m². A single-family home usually has room for 8 to 15 kWp, which is about 40 to 75 m² of module area. We measure how much fits on your roof during the site visit.
How long does it take from enquiry to finished system?
The site visit usually takes place within a week, and the quote follows within 72 hours. The installation itself depends on the size of the system; for a single-family home it usually takes about a week. In between come the notification, the grid operator and the delivery of materials.
How long until a solar system has paid for itself?
That depends on the electricity price, self-consumption and the feed-in tariff of your grid operator. In the quote, we calculate the payback with your figures, not with average values.
Which regions do you cover?
All of German-speaking Switzerland. We build most often in the cantons of Zurich, St. Gallen, Schwyz and Aargau. Our locations are in Zumikon ZH and Lachen SZ.
