In-roof solar in the Canton of Uri

What applies to your solar roof in the Canton of Uri

Solar roofs in historic core zones and protected townscapes

In the Canton of Uri, you notify sufficiently well-adapted solar systems on roofs and facades with the online form «Meldung einer Solaranlage» (notification of a solar system) to your commune’s building authority. Based on your answers, the form clarifies whether a building application is needed after all. Systems that are not sufficiently well adapted, and systems on cultural and natural monuments of cantonal or national importance, need a building permit. In townscape protection areas your commune’s rules apply, which we check in advance. For systems outside the building zone, further rules apply, which we clarify with the canton in advance. We did not find a separate cantonal in-roof rule in the documents.

Subsidies

For integrated systems, the federal government pays a higher one-off payment (Einmalvergütung, EIV) through Pronovo than for add-on systems. Uri also goes its own way. The Energie Uri 2026 subsidy programme pays CHF 60 per square metre for thermal insulation of the building envelope. For areas with integrated photovoltaics at a tilt of 60 to 90 degrees, it is CHF 400 per square metre. The canton defines integrated as the modules replacing the weather-protection layer. This applies to in-roof and facade systems. The requirements are a building permit for the building from before 2000, an application before construction starts, the U-value requirements and a plan showing the module area. Complete replacement of the roof in the same place is also eligible. Completely new building parts, extensions and additional storeys are not, as the subsidy targets existing buildings.

Plan the roof renovation and solar roof together

A tilt of 60 to 90 degrees mainly suits facades and very steep roofs. It also brings more winter electricity, which counts in the Uri valleys with the shadows of the mountain slopes. On flatter roofs, an in-roof system remains a question of appearance, roof build-up and cost. At the site visit we work out both routes and submit the application before construction starts.

Frequently asked questions

Before you get in touch.

Your question is not listed?

044 980 08 80info@solarinnovation.ch
Is the site visit really free?

Yes. The visit and the quote cost you nothing and commit you to nothing. You only decide once you hold the binding quote in your hands.

What counts as an integrated photovoltaic system in the Canton of Uri?

A system counts as integrated if the modules replace the external weather-protection layer and are part of the facade or roof system. It cannot be removed without impairing the function of the building envelope. An add-on system does not meet this.

How high is the subsidy for integrated solar modules in the Canton of Uri?

The Energie Uri 2026 subsidy programme pays CHF 400 per square metre of renovated area with integrated photovoltaics at a tilt of 60 to 90 degrees. The condition is thermal insulation of the same building element on a building with a building permit from before 2000.

Can I combine the integration bonus with the winter electricity contribution in the Canton of Uri?

No. The higher contribution for integrated systems cannot be combined with measure UR-06, photovoltaics for winter electricity. We work out both routes and choose the more favourable one.

Is an in-roof system watertight?

Yes, if it is properly planned and installed. Together with flashings and seals, the modules form the water-bearing layer. Underneath, an underlay membrane remains as a second safeguard. Connections at the chimney, ridge and eaves are the critical points. We work with particular care there.

Can I convert my existing roof to in-roof?

Yes, but it only makes sense as part of a roof renovation. The tiles have to come off anyway then. If your roof is still in good condition, an on-roof system is usually the more economical solution. We tell you honestly during the site visit what is worthwhile.

Will an in-roof system be approved in a historic core zone?

Often more readily than an on-roof system, because it looks calmer. For protected buildings and in historic core zones, a permit is required, and the commune decides case by case. We clarify the situation for your address and submit the documents.

Which regions do you cover?

All of German-speaking Switzerland. We build most often in the cantons of Zurich, St. Gallen, Schwyz and Aargau. Our locations are in Zumikon ZH and Lachen SZ.
