EV charging for underground car parks in German-speaking Fribourg

What applies to your car park in German-speaking Fribourg

Subsidy in German-speaking Fribourg: programme used up

In 2022, the Canton of Fribourg paid contributions for private EV chargers from its energy fund. The budget of one million francs was fully allocated by the end of 2022, and almost 800 applications were approved. We have not found a current cantonal programme for EV chargers for 2026. This applies to the whole canton, and German-speaking Fribourg (Deutschfreiburg) has no rules of its own. Before the quote, we check whether the commune or energy supplier offers a contribution, and we name only documented amounts.

Planning for future electric cars

Where only a few residents drive an electric car today, planning in two stages pays off. The basic installation with supply cable, distribution and load management is designed for all parking spaces. Wallboxes are added as needed, without the supply cable having to be opened up again. This keeps the effort for later additions small.

Property managers and owners’ associations

In condominium ownership (STWEG), the owners decide according to the Civil Code and their regulations. In rented properties, the landlord must agree. We prepare a quote for the meeting that shows the basic installation and the wallboxes separately. The consumption of each charge point is metered separately, and users pay for what they charge.

During the site visit we clarify how much power the property can release for charging. We check the main distribution board, the meter positions and the cable routes, and we record the result in the quote. Planning, installation with our own installers and commissioning are all handled by us, from one source.

Groupe E as grid operator

In all 15 communes of German-speaking Fribourg, Groupe E is the grid operator. The average household price is 27.3 ct./kWh, just below the Swiss median of 27.7 ct./kWh. Because a single utility is responsible, registration follows one procedure. Before installation, our electrical installer submits the technical connection application (technisches Anschlussgesuch) and the installation notice (Installationsanzeige).

Frequently asked questions

Before you get in touch.

Your question is not listed?

044 980 08 80info@solarinnovation.ch
Is the site visit really free?

Yes. The visit and the quote cost you nothing and commit you to nothing. You only decide once you hold the binding quote in your hands.

Does the Canton of Fribourg still subsidise EV chargers in underground car parks?

The 2022 programme was used up at the end of 2022. We have not found a current programme, so we check contributions from communes and energy suppliers.

Do different rules apply in German-speaking Fribourg than in the rest of the Canton of Fribourg?

No. Cantonal law and subsidies apply to the whole canton. We plan in German-speaking Fribourg as we do everywhere else.

How do I plan the car park in German-speaking Fribourg for future electric cars?

With a basic installation (backbone wiring) for all parking spaces and load management. Wallboxes are added as needed, without opening up the supply cable again.

Must property management allow every tenant an EV charger?

There is no clear legal entitlement. In practice, many property managers agree if the tenant bears the cost and the solution suits the building. A shared solution for all parking spaces is usually cheaper than many individual installations.

Who decides on EV chargers in condominium ownership?

That depends on the regulations and the scope. Work on shared parts such as the supply line and distribution board usually needs a resolution of the owners' meeting. We provide the documents for the vote.

Is the house connection enough for several electric cars?

Often yes, if load management shares out the power. Then not all cars charge at full power at the same time. We calculate whether the connection is enough using the load data of your building.

Which regions do you cover?

All of German-speaking Switzerland. We build most often in the cantons of Zurich, St. Gallen, Schwyz and Aargau. Our locations are in Zumikon ZH and Lachen SZ.
