What applies to your car park in Appenzell Ausserrhoden
Subsidy for underground car parks in Appenzell Ausserrhoden
The canton subsidises basic EV charging infrastructure in existing, non-public underground car parks of buildings with at least three residential units. It pays CHF 400 for each connected space, at most CHF 10,000 per project and at most 40% of the investment. At least three spaces must be connected, and the system needs load management and electricity from renewable sources. The building must have been completed before the end of 2022. Newer buildings are not covered by the programme.
The application before the first step of work
The application goes to the Office for the Environment (Amt für Umwelt) before installation begins. We put it together for you and only start work once it has been submitted. For this, we record all parking spaces, the condition of the main distribution board and the connection capacity available to the property during the site visit. This shows how many charge points can run at the same time and whether the house connection needs to be reinforced.
Owners, tenants and property management
In condominium ownership (STWEG), the owners decide on the shared installation according to the Civil Code and their regulations. In rented properties, the landlord agrees. Because the canton requires load management, the basic installation (backbone wiring) for all spaces is the right first step anyway. Individual wallboxes can be added afterwards, each with its own metering for billing per user.
In owners’ associations, the decision on the installation is often the most time-consuming step. We therefore prepare a quote that can be put to the meeting without further questions, and we set out the subsidy conditions, the cost per space and the sequence of work in writing.

Before installation, our electrical installer registers the EV chargers with the relevant utility under the Low-Voltage Installation Ordinance (NIV).

Frequently asked questions
Before you get in touch.
Is the site visit really free?
Yes. The visit and the quote cost you nothing and commit you to nothing. You only decide once you hold the binding quote in your hands.
How much does Appenzell Ausserrhoden pay towards EV charging in the car park?
CHF 400 for each connected space, at most CHF 10,000 per project and at most 40% of the investment. The conditions are at least three spaces and load management.
Does the subsidy in Appenzell Ausserrhoden also apply to new buildings?
No, the building must have been completed before the end of 2022. For newer buildings, we check whether other contributions exist.
When do I submit the application in Appenzell Ausserrhoden?
Before installation starts, to the Office for the Environment (Amt für Umwelt). We prepare the application and only begin installing once it has been submitted.
Must property management allow every tenant an EV charger?
There is no clear legal entitlement. In practice, many property managers agree if the tenant bears the cost and the solution suits the building. A shared solution for all parking spaces is usually cheaper than many individual installations.
Who decides on EV chargers in condominium ownership?
That depends on the regulations and the scope. Work on shared parts such as the supply line and distribution board usually needs a resolution of the owners' meeting. We provide the documents for the vote.
Is the house connection enough for several electric cars?
Often yes, if load management shares out the power. Then not all cars charge at full power at the same time. We calculate whether the connection is enough using the load data of your building.
Which regions do you cover?
All of German-speaking Switzerland. We build most often in the cantons of Zurich, St. Gallen, Schwyz and Aargau. Our locations are in Zumikon ZH and Lachen SZ.
