EV charger in the Canton of Zug

What applies to your EV charger in the Canton of Zug

Connection and permit in the Canton of Zug

A wallbox is an electrical installation under the low-voltage installation ordinance. An electrician registers it with the grid operator by means of an installation notice. The grid operator may ask for an additional connection application and set conditions, for example on charging power or load management. We handle this with our own installers and issue you the safety certificate after installation.

For an EV charger at an existing parking space, the Canton of Zug usually requires a building notice (Bauanzeige) to your commune. If the authority does not respond within 14 days, the EV charger is deemed approved. Otherwise the commune treats the notice as an ordinary building application. New parking spaces always need a building permit. We clarify the process with your commune before installation.

Subsidies in the Canton of Zug

The cantonal energy subsidy programme 2026 supports building envelopes, replacing your heating system and other measures. EV chargers are not included. Individual communes or energy suppliers may offer their own contributions. We check whether your commune has an offer, and we name no amounts that we cannot back up with a source.

Motor vehicle tax for electric cars

The Canton of Zug currently reduces the motor vehicle tax for electric cars by 50%. A new rule is in preparation that is to replace the flat reduction with a different system. You can find out which rules apply to your vehicle at the cantonal Road Traffic Office.

Apartment buildings and condominium ownership

In an apartment building, tenants need the landlord’s consent. In condominium ownership, the owners’ association (STWEG) decides. Load management shares the available power between all spaces so that the house connection does not need to be expanded. We plan the installation so that more spaces can be added later. More on this under EV charging in underground car parks.

Grid operator and electricity price

In the Canton of Zug, WWZ Energie AG supplies ten of the eleven communes and the Wasser- und Elektrizitätswerk Steinhausen one. The cantonal median is 21.9 ct./kWh, which is 5.8 centimes below the Swiss median of 27.7 ct./kWh (ElCom, the Federal Electricity Commission, 2026, household profile H4, excluding VAT). Steinhausen is at 22.2 ct./kWh. With a solar system, every kilowatt-hour you charge from your own roof replaces grid electricity.

Frequently asked questions

Before you get in touch.

Your question is not listed?

044 980 08 80info@solarinnovation.ch
Is the site visit really free?

Yes. The visit and the quote cost you nothing and commit you to nothing. You only decide once you hold the binding quote in your hands.

Do I need a building permit for a wallbox in the Canton of Zug?

At an existing parking space, according to the BPUK, a building notice (Bauanzeige) to the commune is usually enough. If the authority does not respond within 14 days, the EV charger is deemed approved. We prepare the notice for you.

Is there a subsidy for an EV charger in the Canton of Zug?

The cantonal energy subsidy programme 2026 contains no contributions for EV chargers. We check for you whether your commune or supplier offers anything, and we name no amounts that we cannot back up with a source.

Do I pay less motor vehicle tax for an electric car in the Canton of Zug?

Today the tax for electric cars is reduced by half. The canton plans a new rule to replace the flat reduction. You can find the current position at the Road Traffic Office.

Who registers the wallbox with the grid operator in the Canton of Zug?

We do. The wallbox is registered with the grid operator by means of an installation notice, for example with WWZ. After installation, you receive the safety certificate.

Do I need a three-phase power connection for a wallbox?

An 11 kW wallbox runs on a three-phase connection with 16 amps. Most houses have one. However, it often needs its own supply line and a protective device in the distribution board. We check during the site visit whether your installation is sufficient.

Can I connect the wallbox myself?

No. In Switzerland, only a licensed electrician may carry out the fixed connection. They also issue the safety certificates that the grid operator and the insurer require.

How long does it take to install an EV charger?

With a short cable route, usually half a day to a full day. If we have to run a cable through a wall, garden or garage, it takes longer. We tell you the duration beforehand in the quote.

Which regions do you cover?

All of German-speaking Switzerland. We build most often in the cantons of Zurich, St. Gallen, Schwyz and Aargau. Our locations are in Zumikon ZH and Lachen SZ.
