What applies to your EV charger in Upper Valais

Connection and permit in Upper Valais

We register a wallbox with the grid operator before installation. In Upper Valais, depending on the commune, this is for example EnBAG, RELL, VED or endigo. This includes the technical connection application and the installation notice. The grid operator may set conditions on connection power or load management. A building permit is usually not needed for a private EV charger at an existing parking space. It may be needed for new parking spaces, outdoor charging posts or commercial use. We clarify this with your commune.

Subsidies in the Canton of Valais

The Valais subsidy programme for EV chargers ran from November 2020 to September 2022 and has ended. The current subsidy page of the Energy and Hydropower Service (Dienststelle für Energie und Wasserkraft) lists no programme for EV chargers in 2026. We therefore name no cantonal amount. Individual communes and energy suppliers in Upper Valais may offer contributions. We check this for your location before the quote. We give no information here on the cantonal vehicle tax for electric cars, because we have no documented official figure for it. The Road Traffic Office (Strassenverkehrsamt) will tell you the amount for your vehicle.

Apartment buildings and condominium ownership

Tenants need the landlord’s consent. In condominium ownership, the owners’ association (STWEG) decides. This also applies to holiday apartments in condominium owners’ associations. For several spaces, we recommend basic infrastructure with load management. It shares the power between all charging points, and more wallboxes can be added later. More on this under EV charging in underground car parks.

Grid operator and electricity price

In Upper Valais, the communes are supplied by EnBAG Netze, RELL and VED Visp Energie Dienste, among others. The average household price is 24.6 centimes per kilowatt-hour, which is 3.1 centimes below the Swiss median of 27.7 centimes. Prices among the suppliers range from 9.6 to 31.7 centimes. With a range like this, it is worth checking your tariff. With your own solar power you replace grid electricity, and a roof in Upper Valais gets a lot of sun. If you wish, we plan the wallbox together with a solar system.

Your question is not listed?

044 980 08 80info@solarinnovation.ch
Is the site visit really free?

Yes. The visit and the quote cost you nothing and commit you to nothing. You only decide once you hold the binding quote in your hands.

Is there a subsidy for a wallbox in the Canton of Valais?

The Valais programme for EV chargers from 2020 has ended. On the canton's subsidy page we found no programme for EV chargers in 2026. We check communes and energy suppliers in Upper Valais for you one by one.

Do I need a building permit for the wallbox in Upper Valais?

Usually not for a private wallbox at an existing parking space. It may be needed for new parking spaces, outdoor charging posts or commercial use. We clarify this with your commune.

How low is the electricity price for charging in Upper Valais?

On average, households in Upper Valais pay 24.6 centimes per kilowatt-hour, excluding VAT. The Swiss median is 27.7 centimes. There are differences between grid operators, and we calculate with the tariff of your supplier.

Do I need a three-phase power connection for a wallbox?

An 11 kW wallbox runs on a three-phase connection with 16 amps. Most houses have one. However, it often needs its own supply line and a protective device in the distribution board. We check during the site visit whether your installation is sufficient.

Can I connect the wallbox myself?

No. In Switzerland, only a licensed electrician may carry out the fixed connection. They also issue the safety certificates that the grid operator and the insurer require.

How long does it take to install an EV charger?

With a short cable route, usually half a day to a full day. If we have to run a cable through a wall, garden or garage, it takes longer. We tell you the duration beforehand in the quote.

Which regions do you cover?

All of German-speaking Switzerland. We build most often in the cantons of Zurich, St. Gallen, Schwyz and Aargau. Our locations are in Zumikon ZH and Lachen SZ.
