EV charger in the Canton of Lucerne

What applies to your EV charger in the Canton of Lucerne

Connection and permit in the Canton of Lucerne

We register a wallbox with the grid operator before installation. In most communes in the Canton of Lucerne this is CKW. This includes the technical connection application and the installation notice. The grid operator may set conditions on connection power or load management. A building permit is usually not needed for a private EV charger at an existing parking space. It may be needed for new parking spaces, outdoor charging posts or commercial use. We clarify this with your commune.

Subsidies in the Canton of Lucerne

In 2026, the Canton of Lucerne subsidises basic infrastructure in existing multi-party buildings with at least three dwellings. The contribution is CHF 350 for parking spaces 1 to 10, CHF 200 for spaces 11 to 50 and CHF 100 from space 51. New buildings are not eligible. The application is submitted after building starts, through the portal of the buildings programme (Gebäudeprogramm). There is also a new CHF 2,000 for a bidirectional DC charging station, including for single-family homes and apartment buildings. An ordinary wallbox at a single-family home receives no cantonal contribution.

Motor vehicle tax for electric cars

In the Canton of Lucerne, electric cars with energy label A or B receive an 80% bonus on the motor vehicle tax for up to five years from first registration. CO2 emissions must be below half the target value, which from 2025 means below 46.8 grams per kilometre. Purely electric vehicles also get a 20% deduction for their higher weight.

Apartment buildings and condominium ownership

Tenants need the landlord’s consent. In condominium ownership, the owners’ association (STWEG) decides. For several spaces, we recommend basic infrastructure with load management. It shares the power between all charging points, and more wallboxes can be added later. More on this under EV charging in underground car parks.

Grid operator and electricity price

CKW supplies 70 of the 79 communes in the Canton of Lucerne. The cantonal median for households is 25.4 centimes per kilowatt-hour, which is 2.3 centimes below the Swiss median of 27.7 centimes. If you charge with your own solar power, you still replace grid electricity. If you wish, we plan the wallbox together with a solar system.

Grid operators

What power from the grid costs is set by your grid operator. It sets what a trip by electric car costs when you charge at home. With power from your own roof you charge for less.Swiss median: 27.7 ct./kWh.

Your question is not listed?

044 980 08 80info@solarinnovation.ch
Is the site visit really free?

Yes. The visit and the quote cost you nothing and commit you to nothing. You only decide once you hold the binding quote in your hands.

Is there a subsidy for a wallbox in the Canton of Lucerne?

The Canton of Lucerne subsidises basic infrastructure in existing multi-party buildings with three or more dwellings, with CHF 350 for spaces 1 to 10. Bidirectional DC charging stations receive CHF 2,000, including at single-family homes. The wallbox itself is otherwise not eligible.

Do I pay less motor vehicle tax for an electric car in the Canton of Lucerne?

Yes. Electric cars with energy label A or B and a low CO2 value receive an 80% bonus for up to five years. Purely electric vehicles also get a 20% deduction to compensate for their weight.

Do I need a building permit for the EV charger in the Canton of Lucerne?

Usually not for a private wallbox at an existing parking space. It may be needed for new parking spaces or commercial use. We clarify this with your commune.

Do I need a three-phase power connection for a wallbox?

An 11 kW wallbox runs on a three-phase connection with 16 amps. Most houses have one. However, it often needs its own supply line and a protective device in the distribution board. We check during the site visit whether your installation is sufficient.

Can I connect the wallbox myself?

No. In Switzerland, only a licensed electrician may carry out the fixed connection. They also issue the safety certificates that the grid operator and the insurer require.

How long does it take to install an EV charger?

With a short cable route, usually half a day to a full day. If we have to run a cable through a wall, garden or garage, it takes longer. We tell you the duration beforehand in the quote.

Which regions do you cover?

All of German-speaking Switzerland. We build most often in the cantons of Zurich, St. Gallen, Schwyz and Aargau. Our locations are in Zumikon ZH and Lachen SZ.
