What applies to your EV charger in the Canton of Graubünden

Connection and permit in the Canton of Graubünden

A wallbox is an electrical installation under the low-voltage installation ordinance. The electrician registers it with the grid operator by means of an installation notice. The grid operator may ask for a connection application and set conditions on power and load management. We handle the registration with our own installers and issue the safety certificate.

Whether you need a building permit depends in the Canton of Graubünden on the commune. For a wallbox at an existing parking space, a permit is usually not needed. New parking spaces need a permit. We clarify this with your commune before installation.

Subsidies in the Canton of Graubünden

The canton subsidises charging infrastructure in existing apartment buildings if it meets the «Power to Garage» standard. At least four parking spaces get load management. The contribution is CHF 400 per parking space, at most CHF 50,000, and the canton pays for a maximum of one parking space per dwelling. For a bidirectional DC charging station at residential buildings it is CHF 2,000. The application must be received before building starts, and the canton limits total contributions to 50% of the project costs. We submit the application for you.

Motor vehicle tax for electric cars

In April 2026, the Grand Council of Graubünden reset the tax rules. From 2027, weight and power count instead of engine size. Zero-emission vehicles continue to receive a reduction until 2034, but it falls from 80% to 60%.

Apartment buildings and condominium ownership

Tenants need the landlord’s consent. In condominium ownership, the owners’ association (STWEG) decides. Load management is a condition for the cantonal subsidy and shares the power between all spaces. More on this under EV charging in underground car parks.

Grid operator and electricity price

In the Canton of Graubünden, Repower AG supplies 32 of 100 communes, the electricity utility of the City of Zurich (Elektrizitätswerk der Stadt Zürich) eight and Rhiienergie five. The cantonal median is 29.2 ct./kWh, which is 1.5 centimes above the Swiss median of 27.7 ct./kWh (ElCom, the Federal Electricity Commission, 2026, household profile H4, excluding VAT). At Repower it is 30.6 and at Rhiienergie 25.6 ct./kWh. With a solar system, every kilowatt-hour you charge from your own roof replaces grid electricity.

Frequently asked questions

Before you get in touch.

Your question is not listed?

044 980 08 80info@solarinnovation.ch
Is the site visit really free?

Yes. The visit and the quote cost you nothing and commit you to nothing. You only decide once you hold the binding quote in your hands.

Is there a subsidy for EV chargers in the Canton of Graubünden?

Yes, for existing apartment buildings. The canton pays CHF 400 per equipped parking space, at most CHF 50,000, if at least four parking spaces are equipped with load management. For a bidirectional DC station at residential buildings it is CHF 2,000. The application must be received before building starts.

Do I pay less motor vehicle tax for an electric car in the Canton of Graubünden?

Yes, for now. In April 2026, the Grand Council decided to cut the reduction for electric vehicles from 80% to 60% from 2027. It applies until 2034, and the tax is calculated from weight and power.

Do I need a building permit for the wallbox in the Canton of Graubünden?

That depends on the commune. At an existing parking space, a permit is usually not needed. We clarify it with your commune before installation.

Does the subsidy in Graubünden also apply to a single-family home?

No. The subsidy covers existing apartment buildings, commercially used fleet vehicles and bidirectional stations at residential buildings. We know of no cantonal contribution for a single wallbox at a single-family home.

Do I need a three-phase power connection for a wallbox?

An 11 kW wallbox runs on a three-phase connection with 16 amps. Most houses have one. However, it often needs its own supply line and a protective device in the distribution board. We check during the site visit whether your installation is sufficient.

Can I connect the wallbox myself?

No. In Switzerland, only a licensed electrician may carry out the fixed connection. They also issue the safety certificates that the grid operator and the insurer require.

How long does it take to install an EV charger?

With a short cable route, usually half a day to a full day. If we have to run a cable through a wall, garden or garage, it takes longer. We tell you the duration beforehand in the quote.

Which regions do you cover?

All of German-speaking Switzerland. We build most often in the cantons of Zurich, St. Gallen, Schwyz and Aargau. Our locations are in Zumikon ZH and Lachen SZ.
