EV charger in German-speaking Fribourg

What applies to your EV charger in German-speaking Fribourg

Connection and permit in German-speaking Fribourg

We register a wallbox with the grid operator before installation. In all 15 communes of German-speaking Fribourg this is Groupe E. This includes the technical connection application and the installation notice. The grid operator may set conditions on connection power or load management. A building permit is usually not needed for a private EV charger at an existing parking space. It may be needed for several charging points, outdoor charging posts or commercial use. We clarify this with your commune.

Subsidies in the Canton of Fribourg

In 2022, the Canton of Fribourg paid contributions for private EV chargers from its energy fund. The budget of CHF 1 million was fully allocated by the end of 2022, and almost 800 applications were approved. We have found no current cantonal programme for EV chargers for 2026. Individual communes and energy suppliers may offer their own contributions. We check this before the quote and name only amounts we can back up with a source. If an application is needed, we fill it in with you and submit it before building starts.

Motor vehicle tax for electric cars

In the Canton of Fribourg, electric and hydrogen vehicles under 3.5 tonnes get a 30% reduction on the vehicle tax. It applies for the whole lifetime of the vehicle. Vehicles with energy label A get a further 30%. The classification can change every year. Passenger cars are taxed by power in kilowatts.

Apartment buildings and condominium ownership

Tenants need the landlord’s consent. In condominium ownership, the owners’ association (STWEG) decides. For several spaces, we recommend basic infrastructure with load management. It shares the power between all charging points, and more wallboxes can be added later. More on this under EV charging in underground car parks.

Grid operator and electricity price

Groupe E supplies all 15 communes of German-speaking Fribourg. The average household price is 27.3 centimes per kilowatt-hour, just below the Swiss median of 27.7 centimes. Every kilowatt-hour you charge with your own solar power replaces grid electricity. If you wish, we plan the wallbox together with a solar system.

Frequently asked questions

Before you get in touch.

Your question is not listed?

044 980 08 80info@solarinnovation.ch
Is the site visit really free?

Yes. The visit and the quote cost you nothing and commit you to nothing. You only decide once you hold the binding quote in your hands.

Is there a subsidy for a wallbox in the Canton of Fribourg?

The cantonal programme of 2022 with CHF 1 million is fully allocated, and new applications are no longer possible. We have found no current cantonal programme for 2026. We check for contributions from communes and energy suppliers.

Do I pay less vehicle tax for an electric car in German-speaking Fribourg?

Yes. Electric vehicles in the Canton of Fribourg get a 30% reduction for their whole lifetime. With energy label A, a further 30% is added.

Do I need a building permit for the EV charger in German-speaking Fribourg?

Usually not for a private wallbox at an existing parking space. It may be needed for several charging points or commercial use. We clarify this with your commune.

Do I need a three-phase power connection for a wallbox?

An 11 kW wallbox runs on a three-phase connection with 16 amps. Most houses have one. However, it often needs its own supply line and a protective device in the distribution board. We check during the site visit whether your installation is sufficient.

Can I connect the wallbox myself?

No. In Switzerland, only a licensed electrician may carry out the fixed connection. They also issue the safety certificates that the grid operator and the insurer require.

How long does it take to install an EV charger?

With a short cable route, usually half a day to a full day. If we have to run a cable through a wall, garden or garage, it takes longer. We tell you the duration beforehand in the quote.

Which regions do you cover?

All of German-speaking Switzerland. We build most often in the cantons of Zurich, St. Gallen, Schwyz and Aargau. Our locations are in Zumikon ZH and Lachen SZ.
