Commercial solar in the Canton of Graubünden

What applies to businesses with a solar system in Graubünden

Rules for businesses in Graubünden

In the Canton of Graubünden, a notification is enough for roof systems that are sufficiently well integrated and, since 1 January 2026, explicitly also for facade systems. For each building you submit the notification form with self-declaration to the commune’s building permit authority, at the latest 15 days before installation. A building permit is needed in protection zones, on cultural and natural monuments of cantonal or national importance, and for systems that do not meet the requirements.

In the self-declaration, the owner and installer confirm that the system and its substructure meet the load requirements of SIA standard 261 for snow and wind. For pitched roofs, this also covers snow guards. For hall roofs at higher altitudes, this is a key point in planning. We could not confirm a cantonal solar duty for commercial buildings. We clarify this with your commune.

Subsidies and one-off payment

The canton can subsidise photovoltaic systems designed for increased winter power production (Art. 23a Energiegesetz). According to the guide of the Office for Energy and Transport, a tilt of 60 to 90 degrees, at least 3 kWp and an application before work starts apply. Ground-mounted systems and raised systems on pitched roofs are excluded, as are companies exempt from the CO2 levy. The guide names a maximum contribution of CHF 200,000. We confirm with the office which contribution applies today before the quote.

The federal one-off payment (Einmalvergütung) through Pronovo comes on top. From 100 kWp the one-off payment for large systems applies, below that the one for small systems. We submit the applications. On request, we pre-finance the subsidies. The guide explains the costs. For tax purposes, the general depreciation rules apply to business assets. Clarify this with your tax adviser.

Self-consumption in your business

Graubünden has many grid operators, including Repower, EWZ and Rhiienergie. Commercial tariffs differ from valley to valley, so we calculate with your utility’s tariff and your load profile. Hotels, restaurants, trades and farms often have high consumption in winter. Steep modules and facades then deliver more power. A battery storage unit can cap peaks. Frequently asked questions

Before you get in touch.

Your question is not listed?

044 980 08 80info@solarinnovation.ch
Is the site visit really free?

Yes. The visit and the quote cost you nothing and commit you to nothing. You only decide once you hold the binding quote in your hands.

How do I register a commercial system in Graubünden?

For each building you submit a notification form with self-declaration to the commune's building permit authority, at the latest 15 days before installation. In it, the owner and installer confirm the load requirements of SIA standard 261 for snow and wind.

Does Graubünden subsidise photovoltaic systems for businesses?

Under Art. 23a of the Energiegesetz, the canton can subsidise systems for increased winter power production. According to the guide, a tilt of 60 to 90 degrees, at least 3 kWp and an application before work starts apply. According to the guide, companies exempt from the CO2 levy are not eligible.

Which one-off payment does a large system receive in Graubünden?

Systems of 100 kWp or more receive the one-off payment for large systems through Pronovo. We submit the application and work out which option suits your business.

How large a roof does a commercial system need?

A rule of thumb: each kWp needs around 5 to 6 m² of module area. Commercial systems often start at 30 kWp and go well beyond. We measure what fits on your roof at the site visit.

How high is self-consumption in a business?

That depends on the business. If you work during the day, you often use a large share of the solar power directly. Businesses with cooling, machinery or ventilation in the daytime usually do better than offices. We read out your load profile data for this.

Can a solar system reduce peak loads?

In part. Solar power peaks at midday, but demand peaks can also occur in the morning or evening. A commercial battery with controls can cut peaks. We calculate beforehand whether that brings anything under your tariff.

Which regions do you cover?

All of German-speaking Switzerland. We build most often in the cantons of Zurich, St. Gallen, Schwyz and Aargau. Our locations are in Zumikon ZH and Lachen SZ.
