Commercial solar in the Canton of Appenzell Innerrhoden

What applies to businesses with a solar system in Appenzell Innerrhoden

Rules for businesses in Appenzell Innerrhoden

In the Canton of Appenzell Innerrhoden, new buildings must produce part of their electricity themselves, for example with a photovoltaic system. For commerce, industry and farming, the solar system is therefore usually part of the building project. The details are set out in the cantonal Energiegesetz and Energieverordnung. We size the system so that it meets the requirement and fits your consumption.

For existing buildings, the canton provides a notification procedure (Meldeverfahren) under Art. 18a RPG for roof systems that are sufficiently well integrated. It offers an application and notification form with an information sheet. A building permit is needed if the system is not on the roof, is not sufficiently well integrated, affects a protected building or lies in a protection zone. We clarify this before the quote and submit the documents.

Subsidies and one-off payment

The federal government pays the one-off payment (Einmalvergütung) through Pronovo, graded by system size. We submit the application and, on request, pre-finance the subsidies. We did not find direct cantonal contributions to photovoltaic systems on the canton’s subsidy page. Whether the commune or the energy supplier pays, we check when preparing the quote. For depreciation in business assets, your tax adviser can advise you.

Self-consumption in your business

Appenzell Innerrhoden lies in the Alpine foothills, so snow can lie on the modules in winter. For halls and barns, wind and sloping sites are also part of checking the roof and structure. We match the tilt and mounting structure to this. Many businesses in the canton, from trades to farming, use their power during the day. The calculation with your load profile shows which system size pays off. A battery storage unit raises self-consumption further.

Grid operators

Frequently asked questions

Before you get in touch.

Your question is not listed?

044 980 08 80info@solarinnovation.ch
Is the site visit really free?

Yes. The visit and the quote cost you nothing and commit you to nothing. You only decide once you hold the binding quote in your hands.

Must new buildings in Appenzell Innerrhoden generate solar power?

Yes. According to the canton, new buildings must produce part of their electricity themselves, for example with a photovoltaic system. The details are in the Energiegesetz and the Energieverordnung. We clarify them for your building project.

Is a notification enough for a roof system on a business in Appenzell Innerrhoden?

For roof systems that are sufficiently well integrated, there is a notification procedure with a cantonal form. A building permit is needed for protected buildings, in protection zones and if the system is not sufficiently well integrated.

Does Appenzell Innerrhoden pay contributions to commercial photovoltaics?

We did not find direct cantonal contributions to photovoltaic systems on the subsidy page. The federal government pays the one-off payment (Einmalvergütung). Whether your commune or energy supplier contributes, we clarify for your address.

How large a roof does a commercial system need?

A rule of thumb: each kWp needs around 5 to 6 m² of module area. Commercial systems often start at 30 kWp and go well beyond. We measure what fits on your roof at the site visit.

How high is self-consumption in a business?

That depends on the business. If you work during the day, you often use a large share of the solar power directly. Businesses with cooling, machinery or ventilation in the daytime usually do better than offices. We read out your load profile data for this.

Can a solar system reduce peak loads?

In part. Solar power peaks at midday, but demand peaks can also occur in the morning or evening. A commercial battery with controls can cut peaks. We calculate beforehand whether that brings anything under your tariff.

Which regions do you cover?

All of German-speaking Switzerland. We build most often in the cantons of Zurich, St. Gallen, Schwyz and Aargau. Our locations are in Zumikon ZH and Lachen SZ.
