Guide value, not a quote. Assumptions: 10,000 kWh yield, battery around 10 kWh, electricity price 21.9 ct./kWh excluding VAT. Deduct the feed-in tariff you would otherwise have received for this power. Whether a battery pays off, we calculate with your consumption. More in our guide How much does a solar system cost?

Battery storage in the Canton of Zug
What applies to your battery storage in the Canton of Zug
Subsidies for battery storage in the Canton of Zug
In its 2026 energy programme, the Canton of Zug supports insulation and replacing heating systems, and gives a photovoltaic bonus if you insulate the roof or facade at the same time. We find no subsidy for battery storage in the subsidy conditions. Some communes have their own programmes, which we check for your address when preparing the quote. We only name amounts once we can document them.
Registration and fire protection
The battery is registered with the grid operator. In the Canton of Zug, WWZ Energie supplies ten of the eleven communes, and Steinhausen has its own utility. The 2015 fire protection regulations of the VKF (Swiss association of cantonal fire insurers) do not explicitly cover battery storage. The state of the art is the paper on the VKF fire protection guideline for solar systems, which also clarifies where battery storage may be installed. At the site visit we decide the location with you.
When a battery pays off in the Canton of Zug
The Canton of Zug has one of the lowest electricity prices in Switzerland. That makes a battery harder to justify, because each kilowatt-hour you use yourself saves less than elsewhere. It pays off mainly if evening and night consumption is high, for example with a heat pump or an electric car. With an electric car, daytime power from the solar system can be moved into the battery. The battery can also provide backup power if you want to keep important appliances running during a power cut. We show you soberly whether it pays off for you, using your utility’s feed-in tariff.
For sizing, we read your consumption from your electricity bills and, if you have one, from your smart meter data. For single-family homes a sensible size is usually between 8 and 15 kWh of usable capacity. Because the electricity price is low, we do not recommend a battery as a stockpile. We calculate several sizes and show you the difference in the quote.

Frequently asked questions
Before you get in touch.
Is the site visit really free?
Yes. The visit and the quote cost you nothing and commit you to nothing. You only decide once you hold the binding quote in your hands.
Does the Canton of Zug subsidise a battery?
We find no subsidy for battery storage in the 2026 subsidy conditions of the Canton of Zug. The programme has a photovoltaic bonus if you insulate the roof or facade at the same time. Some communes may have their own contributions.
Does a battery pay off in the Canton of Zug at the low electricity price?
The low grid electricity price reduces the value of each kilowatt-hour you use yourself. A battery is more likely to pay off with high evening consumption. We calculate the quote with and without a battery side by side.
Who registers the battery with the grid operator in the Canton of Zug?
We register it with your utility together with the solar system. In the Canton of Zug this is mostly WWZ Energie, and in Steinhausen the local utility. You do not have to take care of it.
How large does the battery storage need to be?
As a rule of thumb, about 1 kWh of storage capacity per 1 kWp of solar output, usually 8 to 15 kWh for single-family homes. What matters is your consumption in the evening and at night. We read it from your electricity bills and calculate the right size.
Is a battery financially worthwhile?
That depends on the electricity price, the feed-in tariff of your grid operator and the price of the battery. The lower the feed-in tariff, the more each kilowatt-hour you use yourself is worth. In the quote, we calculate both options, with and without a battery, side by side.
How long does a battery last?
Modern lithium iron phosphate batteries are designed for several thousand charge cycles, which often means 10 to 15 years or more. Warranty terms differ by manufacturer. We state them in the quote.
Which regions do you cover?
All of German-speaking Switzerland. We build most often in the cantons of Zurich, St. Gallen, Schwyz and Aargau. Our locations are in Zumikon ZH and Lachen SZ.
