What applies to your battery storage in the Canton of Schwyz

Subsidies for battery storage in the Canton of Schwyz

The Canton of Schwyz does not directly subsidise photovoltaic systems. Its subsidy programmes cover the building envelope and heating systems. Some communes have their own programmes. The commune of Schwyz supports batteries for photovoltaic systems, but according to its website it has used up its 2026 budget and no longer accepts applications. Information on next year’s programme appears at the end of the year. The situation may differ in other communes. We check it for your address and submit any possible applications before work starts.

Registration and fire protection

The battery is registered with the grid operator. In the Canton of Schwyz, several utilities supply the communes, including EWS, ebs Energie, EW Höfe and energieUri. The 2015 fire protection regulations of the VKF (Swiss association of cantonal fire insurers) do not explicitly cover battery storage. The state of the art is the paper on the VKF fire protection guideline for solar systems, which also clarifies where battery storage may be installed. We clarify the location at the site visit.

When a battery pays off in the Canton of Schwyz

Electricity prices differ greatly between the Schwyz utilities. In communes with expensive electricity, each kilowatt-hour you use yourself brings more than in communes with a cheaper tariff. The feed-in tariff also matters, and it has its own values for each utility. We therefore always calculate with your utility and compare a solar system with and without a battery. If you want backup power, plan it in from the start with a suitable inverter.

We set the right battery size based on your evening and night consumption. For single-family homes, 8 to 15 kWh of usable capacity usually makes sense. We read your electricity bills and, if you have one, your smart meter data, and take a heat pump and electric car into account. If your commune offers a subsidy, we check the deadline so that the application is in before work starts.

Frequently asked questions

Before you get in touch.

Your question is not listed?

044 980 08 80info@solarinnovation.ch
Is the site visit really free?

Yes. The visit and the quote cost you nothing and commit you to nothing. You only decide once you hold the binding quote in your hands.

Is there subsidy money for a battery in the Canton of Schwyz?

The canton does not directly subsidise photovoltaic systems, and its programmes cover the building envelope and heating systems. Some communes support batteries, for example the commune of Schwyz. We check your commune.

Can I still apply for a battery subsidy in the commune of Schwyz in 2026?

According to the commune, the 2026 programme budget is used up and new applications are no longer accepted. The commune announces details of the 2027 programme at the end of the year.

Which grid operators are there in the Canton of Schwyz for the battery connection?

Among others EWS, ebs Energie, EW Höfe and energieUri. The utilities have different tariffs. We register the battery with your utility and calculate with its feed-in tariff.

How large does the battery storage need to be?

As a rule of thumb, about 1 kWh of storage capacity per 1 kWp of solar output, usually 8 to 15 kWh for single-family homes. What matters is your consumption in the evening and at night. We read it from your electricity bills and calculate the right size.

Is a battery financially worthwhile?

That depends on the electricity price, the feed-in tariff of your grid operator and the price of the battery. The lower the feed-in tariff, the more each kilowatt-hour you use yourself is worth. In the quote, we calculate both options, with and without a battery, side by side.

How long does a battery last?

Modern lithium iron phosphate batteries are designed for several thousand charge cycles, which often means 10 to 15 years or more. Warranty terms differ by manufacturer. We state them in the quote.

Which regions do you cover?

All of German-speaking Switzerland. We build most often in the cantons of Zurich, St. Gallen, Schwyz and Aargau. Our locations are in Zumikon ZH and Lachen SZ.
