Battery storage in the Canton of Lucerne

What applies to your battery storage in the Canton of Lucerne

Subsidies for battery storage in the Canton of Lucerne

The 2026 energy subsidy programme of the Canton of Lucerne covers the building envelope, heat pumps and other measures, including photovoltaics. The programme overview from Energie Zentralschweiz does not list battery storage. For the solar system, the federal one-off payment (Einmalvergütung, EIV) through Pronovo applies. It supports modules, not the battery. We check contributions from individual communes or energy suppliers for your address and only name documented amounts.

For tax, photovoltaic systems on existing buildings in the Canton of Lucerne count as deductible energy-saving investments. Within three years of a building’s construction this is excluded. We found no separate statement on batteries in the tax manual. Clarify the deduction in advance with the tax office.

Registration and fire protection

Industry and federal rules apply to the battery. The fire protection leaflet for lithium-ion batteries from the VKF (Swiss association of cantonal fire insurers) classifies storage by energy content. Home batteries up to 15 kWh per fire compartment count as small systems, up to 100 kWh as medium ones. A licensed electrical installation company carries out the installation. We register the battery with the system at the grid operator and choose the location at the site visit.

When a battery pays off in the Canton of Lucerne

In the Canton of Lucerne, electricity prices are below the Swiss average. That reduces the advantage of a battery, because the gap to the feed-in tariff may be smaller. A battery is then more likely to pay off if consumption outside the midday hours is high. This often applies to households with a heat pump or an electric car, especially in suburban communes such as Kriens, Emmen or Horw with many single-family homes.

We calculate the system with the tariff of your grid operator and present the quote with and without a battery. You decide based on the figures. You can find more on the system and its costs in our guide, cost of a solar system.

Frequently asked questions

Before you get in touch.

Your question is not listed?

044 980 08 80info@solarinnovation.ch
Is the site visit really free?

Yes. The visit and the quote cost you nothing and commit you to nothing. You only decide once you hold the binding quote in your hands.

Is a battery subsidised in the Canton of Lucerne?

The 2026 energy subsidy programme, which Energie Zentralschweiz presents for Lucerne, lists insulation, heat pumps and photovoltaics, but not battery storage. Whether your commune or utility pays anything, we check when preparing the quote.

Does a battery need a separate permit in the Canton of Lucerne?

A separate building permit is generally not needed. The battery is registered with the grid operator together with the solar system, and a licensed electrical installation company carries out the work. We handle this.

When does a battery pay off for my house in Lucerne, Kriens or Emmen?

If you use a lot of electricity in the evening and at night and your utility's feed-in tariff is low. Each stored kilowatt-hour then replaces grid electricity. We work through your consumption profile and put the options with and without a battery side by side.

How large does the battery storage need to be?

As a rule of thumb, about 1 kWh of storage capacity per 1 kWp of solar output, usually 8 to 15 kWh for single-family homes. What matters is your consumption in the evening and at night. We read it from your electricity bills and calculate the right size.

Is a battery financially worthwhile?

That depends on the electricity price, the feed-in tariff of your grid operator and the price of the battery. The lower the feed-in tariff, the more each kilowatt-hour you use yourself is worth. In the quote, we calculate both options, with and without a battery, side by side.

How long does a battery last?

Modern lithium iron phosphate batteries are designed for several thousand charge cycles, which often means 10 to 15 years or more. Warranty terms differ by manufacturer. We state them in the quote.

Which regions do you cover?

All of German-speaking Switzerland. We build most often in the cantons of Zurich, St. Gallen, Schwyz and Aargau. Our locations are in Zumikon ZH and Lachen SZ.
