Battery storage in German-speaking Fribourg

What applies to your battery storage in German-speaking Fribourg

Taxes and subsidies in German-speaking Fribourg

The law of the Canton of Fribourg applies in German-speaking Fribourg. The leaflet of the cantonal tax administration on the deduction of actual costs explicitly lists, besides the photovoltaic system, the installation or replacement of a battery. For the photovoltaic system, the leaflet states that no deduction is possible for new buildings and extensions. We recommend confirming the deduction for your case in advance with the tax office.

The cantonal energy subsidy programme covers the buildings programme, photovoltaics through Pronovo and the ProKilowatt programme. Battery storage is not listed there. Some communes partly offer their own programmes. We check this for your address and name no amounts without documentation.

Registration and fire protection

The battery is registered with the grid operator together with the solar system. A licensed electrical installation company carries out the installation and inspects it. For fire protection, the VKF (Swiss association of cantonal fire insurers) leaflet for lithium-ion batteries applies. Home batteries up to 15 kWh per fire compartment count as small storage systems, up to 100 kWh as medium ones. At the site visit we decide the location: dry, frost-free, with room for ventilation.

When a battery pays off in German-speaking Fribourg

In German-speaking Fribourg, just over half of residential buildings heat with a heat pump. It runs mainly in the morning, in the evening and in winter, when the solar system produces little. A battery saves part of the midday electricity for these times.

Electricity prices in the area are close to the Swiss average. The benefit therefore depends strongly on your consumption profile and your utility’s feed-in tariff. With a low tariff, each kilowatt-hour you use yourself brings more. We calculate with the tariff of your grid operator, put the options with and without a battery in the quote and, if you wish, include an EV charger.

Frequently asked questions

Before you get in touch.

Your question is not listed?

044 980 08 80info@solarinnovation.ch
Is the site visit really free?

Yes. The visit and the quote cost you nothing and commit you to nothing. You only decide once you hold the binding quote in your hands.

Can I deduct a battery from my taxes in German-speaking Fribourg?

The leaflet of the Fribourg tax administration explicitly lists installing or replacing a battery. For new buildings, the leaflet says no deduction is possible for the photovoltaic system. Confirm your case in advance with the tax office.

Does the Canton of Fribourg subsidise battery storage?

The energy subsidy programme names the buildings programme, Pronovo for photovoltaics and ProKilowatt. Battery storage is not listed. Whether your commune pays anything, we check when preparing the quote.

How large should a battery be for a house in Düdingen or Tafers?

For single-family homes, 8 to 15 kWh of usable capacity is usual. We read your consumption from your electricity bills and calculate several sizes. If your house has a heat pump, the recommendation is usually higher.

How large does the battery storage need to be?

As a rule of thumb, about 1 kWh of storage capacity per 1 kWp of solar output, usually 8 to 15 kWh for single-family homes. What matters is your consumption in the evening and at night. We read it from your electricity bills and calculate the right size.

Is a battery financially worthwhile?

That depends on the electricity price, the feed-in tariff of your grid operator and the price of the battery. The lower the feed-in tariff, the more each kilowatt-hour you use yourself is worth. In the quote, we calculate both options, with and without a battery, side by side.

How long does a battery last?

Modern lithium iron phosphate batteries are designed for several thousand charge cycles, which often means 10 to 15 years or more. Warranty terms differ by manufacturer. We state them in the quote.

Which regions do you cover?

All of German-speaking Switzerland. We build most often in the cantons of Zurich, St. Gallen, Schwyz and Aargau. Our locations are in Zumikon ZH and Lachen SZ.
