Battery storage in the Canton of Basel-Country

What applies to your battery storage in the Canton of Basel-Country

Subsidies for battery storage in the Canton of Basel-Country

The Baselbieter Energiepaket pays a bonus for photovoltaics if you renovate your roof or facade to improve its energy performance and fit modules on the renovated area. In the overview of subsidies we found no contribution for battery storage. The battery is therefore a cost you bear yourself. We check other offers from communes or energy suppliers for your address and only name amounts we can document.

Registration and fire protection

You register solar systems in the canton through the cantonal notification form. On the energy package page you will find the fire protection leaflet for solar systems and the fire protection leaflet for battery storage from the VKF (Swiss association of cantonal fire insurers). The leaflet for lithium-ion batteries classifies storage by energy content. Home batteries up to 15 kWh per fire compartment count as small systems, up to 100 kWh as medium systems. The requirements for the installation room rise with each level.

We include the battery in the planning, choose the location and register it with the grid operator together with the system. The installation is carried out by a licensed electrical installation company.

When a battery pays off in the Canton of Basel-Country

Single-family homes dominate in Basel-Country, and many households still heat with oil or gas. If you replace your heating and install a heat pump, you use more electricity in the evening, at night and in winter. An electric car shifts demand further. A battery then uses the solar power from midday that you would otherwise feed into the grid for the feed-in tariff.

Electricity prices in the canton are in the upper range for Switzerland. The bigger the gap between the price you pay and the tariff you receive, the more the battery brings. That tariff depends on your utility. We calculate with the tariff of your grid operator and put both options side by side in the quote.

Frequently asked questions

Before you get in touch.

Your question is not listed?

044 980 08 80info@solarinnovation.ch
Is the site visit really free?

Yes. The visit and the quote cost you nothing and commit you to nothing. You only decide once you hold the binding quote in your hands.

Is there a subsidy for a battery in the Canton of Basel-Country?

In the overview of subsidies of the Baselbieter Energiepaket we found no contribution for storage. The photovoltaic bonus applies to modules on renovated roof and facade areas. We check other contributions from communes or utilities when preparing the quote.

Which fire protection rules apply to a battery in Basel-Country?

The energy package links the VKF fire protection leaflet for battery storage. It classifies storage by energy content, and home batteries up to 15 kWh per fire compartment count as small systems. We decide the location at the site visit.

Does a battery pay off for a single-family home in Basel-Country?

That depends on your evening consumption and your utility's feed-in tariff. With a heat pump or an electric car, demand outside the midday hours rises, and a battery then helps more. We calculate the system with and without a battery.

How large does the battery storage need to be?

As a rule of thumb, about 1 kWh of storage capacity per 1 kWp of solar output, usually 8 to 15 kWh for single-family homes. What matters is your consumption in the evening and at night. We read it from your electricity bills and calculate the right size.

Is a battery financially worthwhile?

That depends on the electricity price, the feed-in tariff of your grid operator and the price of the battery. The lower the feed-in tariff, the more each kilowatt-hour you use yourself is worth. In the quote, we calculate both options, with and without a battery, side by side.

How long does a battery last?

Modern lithium iron phosphate batteries are designed for several thousand charge cycles, which often means 10 to 15 years or more. Warranty terms differ by manufacturer. We state them in the quote.

Which regions do you cover?

All of German-speaking Switzerland. We build most often in the cantons of Zurich, St. Gallen, Schwyz and Aargau. Our locations are in Zumikon ZH and Lachen SZ.
