Hail damage to solar systems in the Canton of Uri

What applies in the Canton of Uri after hail damage

Who insures your solar system in the Canton of Uri

The Canton of Uri has no cantonal building insurance. It is one of the GUSTAVO cantons, where private companies insure buildings. For your solar system, this means the policy governs hail protection. Ask your insurer whether natural hazard damage is included and whether the system is listed in the sum insured as part of the building. Write down the answer. If you extend the system or change insurer, check this point again.

What to do after hail

Report the damage to your insurer first, before any modules are replaced. Look at the system from the ground and photograph visible damage. We then inspect modules, cabling and inverter on site and measure the strings. From this we prepare the findings, photos and a quote for replacing modules. You submit the claim file to your insurer, which decides on the payout.

Documents for your report

For the report, it helps to have the date and time of the hail, the invoice for the system and details of the module type, number and year of construction. Fine cell cracks only show up in measurements. We put the results together in written findings and add a cost estimate for replacing modules. Keep all receipts until the insurer has closed the claim. This makes follow-up questions easier and speeds up processing.

Hail protection for new systems

Before you build, it is worth asking the insurer which details it needs about the system. When choosing modules, the Swiss hail register (Hagelregister) gives tested hail resistance figures. We discuss the choice at the free site visit and plan the system through to commissioning, all from one source.

Frequently asked questions

Before you get in touch.

Your question is not listed?

044 980 08 80info@solarinnovation.ch
Is the site visit really free?

Yes. The visit and the quote cost you nothing and commit you to nothing. You only decide once you hold the binding quote in your hands.

Who insures a solar system against hail in the Canton of Uri?

There is no cantonal building insurance in the Canton of Uri. Private companies insure buildings, and the policy sets the cover.

What do I do after hail damage in the Canton of Uri?

Report the damage to your insurer before anything is repaired. We inspect the system and put together findings, photos and a quote.

What do I check with the insurer in the Canton of Uri before building a solar system?

Whether natural hazard damage is included, whether the system counts as part of the building and whether the sum insured fits the construction costs.

Can I always see hail damage on the modules?

No. Broken glass or cracks are visible. Fine cell cracks inside cannot be seen with the naked eye. They can reduce output or later lead to hotspots. So an inspection is worthwhile even if the modules look intact from the outside.

May I leave the system running after the hail?

Not if there is broken glass or visibly damaged cables. Broken modules can carry voltage. Switch the system off at the inverter switch if you can reach it safely, and keep away from the modules. Then call us.

Does cantonal building insurance pay for hail damage to a solar system?

Often yes, depending on the policy and the canton. Fixed-mounted systems are often covered by the cantonal building insurance, sometimes extra cover is needed. Check your policy and report the damage promptly. We supply the technical documents.

Which regions do you cover?

All of German-speaking Switzerland. We build most often in the cantons of Zurich, St. Gallen, Schwyz and Aargau. Our locations are in Zumikon ZH and Lachen SZ.
