Hail damage to solar systems in the Canton of Schaffhausen

What applies in the Canton of Schaffhausen after hail damage

Who insures your solar system in the Canton of Schaffhausen

In the Canton of Schaffhausen, a cantonal building insurance insures buildings against fire and natural hazard damage, which includes hail. Solar systems permanently mounted on the roof are generally treated as part of the building. How the Schaffhausen building insurance classifies your system in your case, and whether a report or an adjustment of the sum insured is needed after construction, is best clarified directly with them. We give you the system data, the invoice and the output in kWp for this.

What to do after hail

Note what is visible from the ground and report the damage to your building insurer before anything is repaired. We then inspect the system on site. This includes a visual check of the modules, measurement of the strings and checks of cabling and inverter. Fine cell cracks cannot be seen from outside, so measuring is worthwhile even for modules that look intact. You receive the findings, photos and a quote for replacing modules as a claim file for the insurer.

Documents for your report

Have the module type, number, year of construction and invoice for the system ready for the report. Note the date and time of the hail. Photos of hailstones next to a ruler show the insurer the size of the stones. Our findings add the measurement values of the system to these documents.

Hail protection for new systems

For a new system, you can look at the hail resistance of the modules. The Swiss hail register (Hagelregister) lists products with tested resistance. We discuss the choice of modules at the site visit and plan the system through to commissioning, all from one source. The site visit is free.

Frequently asked questions

Before you get in touch.

Your question is not listed?

044 980 08 80info@solarinnovation.ch
Is the site visit really free?

Yes. The visit and the quote cost you nothing and commit you to nothing. You only decide once you hold the binding quote in your hands.

Is my solar system in the Canton of Schaffhausen insured against hail?

Permanently mounted systems are generally treated as part of the building, and hail is natural hazard damage. The Schaffhausen building insurance confirms whether your policy includes the system.

What do you provide after hail damage in the Canton of Schaffhausen?

Findings, photos and a quote for replacing modules as a claim file for your insurer. You submit the damage report itself to the insurer.

Can I leave the system running after hail in the Canton of Schaffhausen?

Not if there is broken glass or damaged cables. Switch the system off at the inverter if you can reach it safely, and call us.

Can I always see hail damage on the modules?

No. Broken glass or cracks are visible. Fine cell cracks inside cannot be seen with the naked eye. They can reduce output or later lead to hotspots. So an inspection is worthwhile even if the modules look intact from the outside.

May I leave the system running after the hail?

Not if there is broken glass or visibly damaged cables. Broken modules can carry voltage. Switch the system off at the inverter switch if you can reach it safely, and keep away from the modules. Then call us.

Does cantonal building insurance pay for hail damage to a solar system?

Often yes, depending on the policy and the canton. Fixed-mounted systems are often covered by the cantonal building insurance, sometimes extra cover is needed. Check your policy and report the damage promptly. We supply the technical documents.

Which regions do you cover?

All of German-speaking Switzerland. We build most often in the cantons of Zurich, St. Gallen, Schwyz and Aargau. Our locations are in Zumikon ZH and Lachen SZ.
