Hail damage to solar systems in the Canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden

What applies in the Canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden after hail damage

Who insures your solar system in the Canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden

In the Canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden, building insurance with Assekuranz AR is compulsory. It applies to buildings valued at more than CHF 15,000. Assekuranz AR revalues buildings automatically every ten years. Natural hazard damage has been part of building insurance since 1963. Permanently mounted solar systems are generally treated as part of the building. How Assekuranz AR classifies your system in your case, and whether it should be reported after construction, you should clarify directly with them. We recommend checking with them after every major investment in the building.

What to do after hail

Assekuranz AR requires damage to be reported immediately and before repairs begin. This also applies to modules. We then inspect the system on site, measure the strings and record damage to modules, cables and the inverter. You receive the findings, photos and a quote for replacing modules as a claim file. We replace defective modules once Assekuranz AR has recorded the damage.

Documents for your report

For the report, note the date and time of the hail and photograph visible damage from the ground. Have the system data ready: module type, number and year of construction. We add measurement values and a cost estimate so that the damage report is complete.

Hail protection for new systems

Assekuranz AR offers prevention advice on property protection and natural hazards and runs the weather alert. When choosing modules, the Swiss hail register (Hagelregister) gives tested hail resistance figures. We discuss the choice at the free site visit and plan the system through to commissioning, all from one source.

Frequently asked questions

Before you get in touch.

Your question is not listed?

044 980 08 80info@solarinnovation.ch
Is the site visit really free?

Yes. The visit and the quote cost you nothing and commit you to nothing. You only decide once you hold the binding quote in your hands.

Is building insurance compulsory in the Canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden?

Yes, with Assekuranz AR, for buildings valued at more than CHF 15,000. It also covers natural hazard damage, which includes hail.

When do I report hail damage in the Canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden?

Immediately and before repairs begin, as Assekuranz AR requires. After that we inspect the system and prepare the claim file.

Should I report a new solar system to Assekuranz in the Canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden?

We recommend it after commissioning, so that the sum insured matches the value of the building. Assekuranz AR will tell you which documents it needs.

Can I always see hail damage on the modules?

No. Broken glass or cracks are visible. Fine cell cracks inside cannot be seen with the naked eye. They can reduce output or later lead to hotspots. So an inspection is worthwhile even if the modules look intact from the outside.

May I leave the system running after the hail?

Not if there is broken glass or visibly damaged cables. Broken modules can carry voltage. Switch the system off at the inverter switch if you can reach it safely, and keep away from the modules. Then call us.

Does cantonal building insurance pay for hail damage to a solar system?

Often yes, depending on the policy and the canton. Fixed-mounted systems are often covered by the cantonal building insurance, sometimes extra cover is needed. Check your policy and report the damage promptly. We supply the technical documents.

Which regions do you cover?

All of German-speaking Switzerland. We build most often in the cantons of Zurich, St. Gallen, Schwyz and Aargau. Our locations are in Zumikon ZH and Lachen SZ.
