Hail damage to solar systems in the Canton of Aargau

What applies in the Canton of Aargau after hail damage

Who insures your solar system in the Canton of Aargau

In the Canton of Aargau, the Aargau cantonal building insurance (AGV) is responsible. According to the AGV FAQ, a photovoltaic system must be reported to the AGV. For an existing system, this is done with the form for minor changes. For a building project, it is done through the construction-period insurance. Then submit the final invoice. The AGV adjusts the policy and sends a new premium invoice. Once reported, the system is covered by the fire and natural hazard insurance. Hail counts as a natural hazard.

What to do after hail

After storms, the AGV recommends checking blinds, windows, façade, roof tiles and photovoltaic systems. We take care of checking the system: visual inspection of the modules, measurement of the strings, and checks of the cabling and inverter. From the results we prepare the findings, photos and a quote for your damage report to the AGV. Report the damage before any modules are replaced. We then replace the defective modules.

Documents for your report

For the damage report to the AGV, it helps to have the date and time of the hail, dated photos and the final invoice for the system, which you need for the report anyway. Fine cell cracks cannot be seen from outside. That is why we measure the strings and record the result in writing.

Hail protection for new systems

If you are building new, you can take the hail resistance of the modules into account when choosing them. The Swiss hail register (Hagelregister) lists products with tested hail resistance. At the site visit we discuss which modules suit your roof. We handle the planning up to commissioning. You make the report to the AGV after completion, with the final invoice.

Frequently asked questions

Before you get in touch.

Your question is not listed?

044 980 08 80info@solarinnovation.ch
Is the site visit really free?

Yes. The visit and the quote cost you nothing and commit you to nothing. You only decide once you hold the binding quote in your hands.

Do I have to report my solar system to the AGV in the Canton of Aargau?

Yes. According to the AGV FAQ, a photovoltaic system must be reported. It is then covered by the fire and natural hazard insurance. For this the AGV needs the final invoice.

Who pays for hail damage to solar modules in the Canton of Aargau?

Hail is one of the natural hazard damages covered by the AGV. The condition is that the system has been reported. The AGV assesses the amount of the payout according to your policy.

What do you check on a hail-damaged system in the Canton of Aargau?

We check the modules, cabling, inverter and mounting structure, and measure the strings. You receive the result in writing as the basis for the damage report.

Can I always see hail damage on the modules?

No. Broken glass or cracks are visible. Fine cell cracks inside cannot be seen with the naked eye. They can reduce output or later lead to hotspots. So an inspection is worthwhile even if the modules look intact from the outside.

May I leave the system running after the hail?

Not if there is broken glass or visibly damaged cables. Broken modules can carry voltage. Switch the system off at the inverter switch if you can reach it safely, and keep away from the modules. Then call us.

Does cantonal building insurance pay for hail damage to a solar system?

Often yes, depending on the policy and the canton. Fixed-mounted systems are often covered by the cantonal building insurance, sometimes extra cover is needed. Check your policy and report the damage promptly. We supply the technical documents.

Which regions do you cover?

All of German-speaking Switzerland. We build most often in the cantons of Zurich, St. Gallen, Schwyz and Aargau. Our locations are in Zumikon ZH and Lachen SZ.
